Welcome to our place.
Discover something that’s not on the tourist map. Whataroa is surrounded by one of the most beautiful and unique landscapes, a postcard picture of rural New Zealand. It hosts birdwatching, fishing, hunting, trekking, boating, horse riding, heli-flights and much more. There is plenty to do if you’re traveling through or staying with us for a while.
The What’s On page lists special events and all the things you shouldn’t miss when you visit us. Enjoy the many things the region has to offer and the hospitality of it’s rural community.
The information center is opposite the petrol station on the main highway. Leaflets and bookings for the nature tours and adventure experiences in the area are available at the office. The office also displays some interesting old photographs of early Whataroa for the history buffs.

If you’re a new resident, there is a dinner in July each year to welcome you to the area and introduce you to it’s other residents. They have a wealth of knowledge and support that will help you to settle in. Have a look on the What’s On event calendar for the next dinner date.
